Op.Carpetbagger created 24.10.1943 for OSS missions to Europe. 4 and 22 Anti-Submarine Squadrons (deactivated 22.11.1943) renamed 36 and 406 Bomber Squadrons 22.11.1943 joined 482 Bomber Group 4.12.1943 to RAF Harrington 25.3.1944 as 801 Bomber Group (36 and 406 Squadrons joined May 1944 by 788 and 850 Bomber Squadrons) redesignated 492 Bomber Group 13.8.1944 with 4 squadrons :- 856,857,858 and 859 Bomber Squadrons 406 Night Leaflet Squadron created March 1945 492 Bomber Group left Harrington for USA 7.7.1945 deactivated 17.10.1945 note 859 Bomber Squadron detached to Brindisi,Italy December 1944 Information:
