3 Para El Gamil,Suez 1950s

photo source Graham Alcock son of RSM John Alcock
I first saw this set of photos in about 1958 when our family was based at Glasgow para TA. I also have an image which shows the colonel walking away towards the control tower. My father climed to me he was the man putting on his beret in this famous image - but other relatives also claim the man as their father - I am being as fair as I can be in saying that because if my father identified himself then that is good enough for me. I will find this photo and put it on this site soon. Graham Alcock

I remember my father, RSM J Alcock telling me a story of how he had caught a youg soldier stealing petrol. He arrested him and put him in the guardhouse with the can of petrol. Years later I spoke to the man by chance who told me he had, whilst still in he cell. got rid of the evidence by pouring it out through the cell window into another mates can who was outside. The charges had to be dropped.

These images are not from the famous Norton Collection. My father, RSM J Alcock, has owned these chemical based prints since 1956. They are now in my possession.
