Don was a great guy and room mate in Training Group. We often, at least when we could get a pass, traveled to Kannapolis to spend time with his family... Mom, Dad, and twin sisters. Had one great adventure going over to the jungle boot factory and picking up pair fresh off the line. Still have them and still wear them from time-to-time. Great value... We graduated and Don went to the 1st Group on Okie and I traveled up the Street to the 3rd Herd. Maggie Ray, John Wayne and the debut of the Green Beret movie at the 82nd theater in the Division Area. MSG Leo J. Violette took me under his wing and taught me what life was really about. The 3rd deactivated and I stayed in the same room. The biggest deal was switching the flash to the 6th Group. Group surgeon was Jeff MacDonald and that was a mess. Invited to join a group of guys for some adventure North of the parallel later in 1970... The news about Don was really tough. Thank God he is home...
