He was deployed with the Special Forces Support Group of the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.​

​

He was killed when his Jackal armoured vehicle was hit by an explosion followed by a small-arms fire attack while on patrol north of Lashkar Gah, Helmand province. Cpl Kevin Mulligan and LCpl Dale Thomas Hopkins were also killed and a fourth soldier was hospitalised in critical condition.​

Aged 21, from Croesyceiliog, Wales. He was described as a talented sportsman and highly professional soldier always ready for the next challenge. His family said "he was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, and boyfriend. He was the life and soul of any party".​

A repatriation ceremony was held at RAF Lyneham on August 13, 2009. Hundreds of mourners attended LCpl Adams' funeral on August 28, 2009 at Gwent Crematorium, near Cwmbran, South Wales.​
