CITATION:
Silver Star : The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Terry C. Anderson (MCSN: 2421839), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with Company A, Third Reconnaissance Battalion, THIRD Marine Division (Rein.), FMF, in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. Private First Class Anderson was manning a bunker on the Command Post perimeter at Fire Support Base CUNNINGHAM when the Marines came under an intense hostile mortar attack. Alertly detecting enemy soldiers moving stealthily toward his position, he reacted instantly and unhesitatingly fired upon the hostile soldiers, thereby alerting the other Marines. As the large enemy force overran the perimeter and assaulted his fighting position, Private First Class Anderson was seriously wounded by a hostile round, yet fearlessly continued to fire upon the enemy, killing several. In the ensuing fire fight, which lasted over three hours, he was again injured by fragments from a hostile grenade. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, he steadfastly remained at his post and was instrumental in repelling the hostile attack and in killing numerous enemy soldiers including one who was attempting to throw a grenade into the bunker in which Private First Class Anderson and other Marines were positioned. By his courage, resolute determination and unwavering devotion to duty in the face of great personal danger, Private First Class Anderson upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.
