CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Boatswain's Mate John Frank Babick, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as a member of an Underwater Demolition Team engaged in reconnaissance of enemy-held landing beaches and defenses during the amphibious assault and capture of Leyte, Philippine Islands, in October 1944. In the face of intense enemy rifle, machine gun and mortar fire, he bravely prepared the way for the operations of combat troops and by his courageous leadership and devotion to duty contributed greatly to the success of this hazardous mission. His courage and conduct were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
