CITATION:

Military Medal : On 3 July 1944 after a successful ambush in which he played a prominent part, this young soldier, aged 21 years, was one of a party which strolled to the scene of the ambush to ascertain results. Then crossing a paddy land a wounded Jap opened fire on the patrol, killed the Commander and wounded another man who fell on the exposed side of the land. Without hesitation, and under continual fire, Pte Bailey jumped over the land and carried the wounded man be safety. He was seriously wounded himself in so doing. His extremely high standard of courage and bravery had been evident in many previous encounters with the enemy.

Recommended for the Immediate Award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal.
