CITATION:

Mention in Despatches : 1st December, 1958. Trooper Bennett was No 2 of a Rocket Launcher team which was used in an assault by a troop of 14 men on rebel held cave deep in rebel territory. It was planned to open fire at first light, from a position 200 yards away, which had been previously reconnoitred. When fire was opened, Trooper Bennett and his No 1 stood up in full view of about 12 rebels who by now were firing back from behind rocks, and the first rocket scored a direct hit inside the cave. This was believed to have killed three rebels. Again the launcher was reloaded and once more they stood up and a direct hit was scored on the four rebels who were all killed. Near misses from rebel fire chipped the launcher and tore the clothing of both the No 1 and No 2.

Trooper Bennett and his No 1 with complete disregard for their own safety exposed themselves on three occasions so as to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the rockets.
