CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Commander Edward Dodd Brewster (NSN: 0-159018), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action from 31 January 1944 to 5 February 1944 during the assault of Kwajalein Atoll, and again from 17 to 22 February 1944 during the assault of Eniwetok Atoll, as Commanding Officer of Underwater Demolition Team Number ONE. By cool and capable direction, he caused his team to perform demolition and close reconnaissance operations in close proximity to the enemy. Although wounded by enemy fire at Eniwetok he continued to discharge his duties to the limit of his capabilities. His performance was particularly creditable because he volunteered for this extra hazardous duty, and was responsible for organizing, training, and equipping all demolition forces used in the Marshall Islands operations. His courage and conduct throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
