CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Stanley Shuler (MCSN: 281394), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the First Parachute Battalion, FIRST Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces during the invasion of Gavutu, Solomon Islands, on 7 August 1942. Although he received serious wounds to the chest and arm while executing an important reconnaissance assignment, Corporal Shuler, with courage and determination, persisted in his task until he obtained valuable information concerning the hostile force and returned to his command with an excellent report of his detailed observations. After he requested but was refused permission to continue in action against the enemy, he proceeded with another wounded marine to the first aid station. While assisting his comrade along the treacherous route, Corporal Shuler, by skillful use of his weapon, succeeded in driving off two attacking Japanese and thereby undoubtedly saved his companion's life. His outstanding conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
