Lt Henry Taliai was of Tongan descent, serving in the Commandos, 1st Fiji Guerillas during WW2. He was, and still is, the only Fijian officer whose name is recorded in the Book of Remembrance, kept in the Chapel of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, UK. He was a graduate of the Academy prior to the outbreak of WW2. He was killed whilst leading his men, as they attempted to capture a Japanese machinegun post in the jungles of Bougainville in the Solomon Islands.
