My grandfather was very much a man of service to the uniform and his country. He loved military life. In early 1947 Bob, his brother Jack and brother in law, Dick Isaac joined with the Hennell family and set out from Coventry - bound for Southern Rhodesia. Their choice of vehicle were second hand lorries and what an adventure they had. All three men settled in Bulawayo at the end of their journey and their families joined them, travelling by sea. Bob soon moved to Ndola where he worked for African Affairs on the Copperbelt before moving back to Rhodesia. He enjoyed a few trips back home to Coventry and Kidderminster but it wasn't long before he longed for life on the African continent. Bob kept a hand in military affairs as the years rolled by and his adopted homeland broke to civil war. He died in Umtali - a 70 year old man, settled in his life.
