Thanks Dave, it was the ship to ship - I remember my grandfather (2 SAS) sitting with two whiskeys at home and only drinking the one, leaving the other for those lost. Think this is a tradition. I knew it was around this time but didn't know when it was actually reported that the guys were SAS...

Does anyone know if this was reported at the time as an 'SAS' incident or just under normal army activity? Trying to recall something my grandfather did at the time. Many thaks

Its a lot of money to shell out but I'm in the process of selling my grandfathers house (2SAS)> what a fitting use for some of the money!If I do then all are welcome to come and see it at Cardiff, Phil (Geronimo) reckon we could get it at one of the Cardiff museums??

anyone any idea which one this may be? have found a letter from my Grandfather with a postmark of 23/12/1944 from colchester with return address no1 sqdn saying he had just come back from a mission... He had his radio shot up and the army took ?20 from him...bit harsh, unless he he shot it...

Further to Geronimos' link, the Certificate of Kinship form allows the entry of either the Service number or in the absence of that the date of birth so hope that hekps.
