I have just learnt (06-Oct-2014) that the initials above stand for: Flag Officer Levant Eastern Mediterranean. Does anyone know, or offer an explanation, as to why this is in my late fathers diary from 1944/45, on more than one occasion? He was apparently attached to Raiding Forces Signal...

    SAS Alcock, John

I don't suppose that the signature on the bottom right-hand side is that of Lt Col BINGHAM, and the sketches are all hand drawn, mostly of ALE, ALE and more ALE! I have one which is actually from the 19th Bn Essex Regt lunch for Christmas 1943, again in North Africa!

Whereabouts of Special Boat Service records

Try the index of the newly released book "The SBS During World War Two - An Illustrated History" by Gavin Mortimer? Or ask someone who has read it. No promises but it is worth a try.

It is believed, after extensive research, that my father was actually with original 1SAS or SBS. More research to do but any photo's...

Geronimo, Thanks. I had to do a little digging around for this one and apparently these units were raised in the Middle East between 1942/44. The trucks (thanks to TRUX) are believed to be CMP Chevrolet 3tonners with the No.13 cab (roof removed) It is surprising - to me at least - that once...

Hi Jimmy The photo is definately that of Anders Lassen. It is one of the 'official' photos taken of senior NCO's and used in many publications; namely "The Regiment - the true story of the SAS" Enjoy

PHANTOM Leonard Owens M.M. (F) squadron

Hi, I don't know if you've had any response yet, but, amongst my late father's bits and pieces was a newspaper cutting showing 'Joe' and Arthur Leonard Edward 'Chippy' WOOD who was Mentioned in Despatches and awarded the Croix de Guerre with silver star (France 1944) - operation Houndsworth...

    SAS Raiding Forces (MELF)

Any information in reference to Raiding Forces, Middle East (1943-44), in particular 'Signals Squadron' as I am researching my fathers' military career. He was attached to this group somewhere in North Africa and did two Cipher Operators courses in Cairo or Alexandria. Details are: Hubert...
