I've just started researching late father's army history. I was amazed to see him in the Roll of Honour. The deatails state that he was WIA and POW 1945 - where would this information have come from? He never spoke about the war and it was only after his death that we realised what he had been through.

I do not undrstand why someone has not replied to you. It was almost a year ago. Look for Wlliam Oakes on this site and send him an e-mail. His father was in 2 SAS but he has lots of records about the SAS. He will give you the SAS Association address which is what you need.Graham Alcock, son of SQMS John Alcock first and second SAS.

Hi Katie,

I do not know if you are aware that your father won his Military Medal at Bagnara with the Special Raiding Squadron (SRS). The action in which he won the MM is described in the book "SAS-The History of the Special Raiding Squadron 'Paddy's Men'" written by my good friend Stewart McClean.

If you email me I can provide you with a copy of his citation.

Best regards,

Ian
