CITATION:

Member of the Order of the British Empire : Capt. Barrett has been with the LRDG since it was formed in July 1940. He joined the unit as an SQMS, was commissioned and acted as QM for some time, and is now Adjutant. The difficulties of equipping a unit such as this for long distance recce have been great, as much of the equipment is of a special nature, and also because the bases from which the unit has operated have invariably been many hundreds of miles from the normal l of c. Such success as the LRDG has achieved has largely been due to the untiring work of Capt. Barrett, who has always exhibited qualities of foresight, enthusiasm, and a capacity for really hard work far above a verage. He has always maintained the "Q" side of the unit in a thoroughly efficient manner, in spite of great difficulties of climate and long lines of communication. His work during the past 2½ years deserves the highest praise.
