WO2 Reginald David (Dave) HEYWOOD was tragically killed along with Sergeant Dennis Michael Winape (Bro) TERRY at 05:23am on 26 February 1981 when USAF MC-130E #64-0564 (belonging to 1st Special Operations Squadron) “Flew into the ocean near Tabones Island, Philippines during a low-level turn killing 23 out of 24 on board”. Bro & Dave where part of a NZ Special Air Service detachment on exercise SpecWarEx-81 operating out of Cubi Point Naval Air Station, Subic Bay, Philippines. ​
