CITATION:

Military Medal : On 6 Nov 1956 at PORD SAID, Cpl Mead having just disembarked from 2nd wave of the helicopter assault force was moving with his section along the main road adjoining the beaches to start clearing some buildings.
Suddenly, in an aircraft attack, half of his section became casualties and he was wounded in the leg by a cannon shell. Although in pain he dressed his wound and despite considerable loss of blood reorganised his men, and continued to lead them throughout the remainder of the day. During the house clearing which was bitterly opposed enemy riflemen and machine gunners such as to limit the rate of advance to 800 yds in 5 hours he behaved with such outstanding valour and courage that he was an inspiration to all. Finally, faint from loss of blood he was ordered to be evacuated by his Troop Commander.
