CITATION:

Military Medal : OPERATION JUBILEE, DIEPPE AREA 19TH AUGUST 1942
During the action Cpl. Koons displayed conspicuous gallantry & admirable leadership. In charge of a small sniping detachment he continued to carry out his duties with very marked success under heavy fire which eventually caused the almost total destruction of the building from which he and his men were sniping. Cpl. Koons is probably the first American N.C.O. to account for a number of Germans in this war. He was attached to my Commando, and his Troop Leader spoken of his exemplary character in terms of the highest praise.
