Silver Star : Near Mankrin, Burma, on June 288, 1944, while his company was making an attack on an enemy position, his squad was pinned down by fire from a pillbox. On his own initiative and without regard for his own safety, he rushed the pillbox alone. He threw grenades into it until the enemy fire ceased. His squad was then able to move forward and occupy the position. His courage reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
Silver Star (Oak Leaf Cluster) : Near Mankrin, Burma, on July 2, 1944, when his squad was pinned down by enemy fire, on his own initiative and without regard for his own safety, he rushed an enemy entrenchment by himself. He threw grenades into the trench, killing several of the enemy, but was driven away by fire and grenades. A short time later, he started to rush the position again, and was killed in the attempt. His courage, bravery, and supreme sacrifice represent the highest traditions of the American military service and reflect great credit upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
