CITATION:

Silver Star : SERGEANT CHARLIE V. McCANN, 34581081, Infantry, United States Army, for gallanty in action in connection with military operations against the enemy on 6 June 1944. After crossing the beach during the initial landing on the continent, Sergeant McCann, with other members of his unit, was pinned down by small arms and artillery fire. Disregarding the intense barrage of fire being laid down around him, Sergeant McCann aided in clearing enemy fortifications of machine gun nests and snipers. The actions of Sergeant McCann were instrumental in completing the mission of his unit in due operational time. The devotion to duty and fearless courage demonstrated by Sergeant McCann are in keeping with and constitute the highest traditions of the military service. Entered military service from Alabama.

McCANN, 34581081, Infantry, United States Army, for meritorious service in connection with military operations against an armed enemy of the United States from 27 August 1944 to 10 September 1944 on the Le Conquet Peninsula, France. During this period, Sergeant McCann continuously volunteered to go on an lead patrols into enemy territory and as a result, obtained valuable enemy information. On many approach marches, Sergeant McCann acted as lead scout, disregarding the constant danger of ambush. By his excellent leadership and work, Sergeant McCann took an important part in the capture of the Le Conquet Peninsula. Thank you so much for posting this. Charlie Venton McCann was my grandfather, I was raised by my grandparents due to my parents being teenagers. My Grandaddy was a special man. He left me what few belongings he had, which include his Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart Citations. His most prized possession was a letter, which I have, that his commanding officer Lt. S.V. Parubsky had written to my great grandmother. I also have the pic you posted here as well as a pic of the entire 2nd Rangers Co A Battallion. Anyways thank you for honoring our past heroes.
