LCDR Robert Eugene Condon, USN was killed on 18 January 1968. LCDR Condon was the commanding officer of Underwater Demolition Team TWELVE (UDT 12). At 0749 hours an Armored Troop Carrier (ATC) T-112-1 (a.k.a. Landing Craft Medium/LCM) was struck by two B-40 rocket propelled grenades (RPG-2), while on a blocking station at the confluence of Ong Buong Stream and the Ben Tre River, six miles southeast of Ben Tre, Giong Trom District, Kien Hoa Province, Republic of Vietnam. One B-40 rocket fired from a RPG-2 hit the ramp and penetrated it. The explosion killed LCDR Condon instantly wounded one crewmember. UDT 12 had been in-country to observe the evaluation of the new "Aqua Dart," which his men were testing.
