SP 4 MARK E. ABRAMS ~ (27 February 1966~12 December 1985)
He is the son of the late Janetta Abrams and Henry Abrams.
He was an honor graduate of Independence High School where he was active in athletics, baseball, football, and track and a member of the Beta Club.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1984 and became a member of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
He was killed in a crash of a chartered airplane that was carrying 246 military service persons home from duty in the Middle East. All passengers and a crew of six died in the crash at Gander, Newfoundland.
Survivors, his step-mother Viola Abrams; five brothers, Lawrence, Kevin, Steven, Terry and Henry Jr.; two sisters, Penella Abrams and Anne Mallory; two half-brothers, James R. Caldwell and Jeff Alexandria; and two half-sisters, Janis Alexandria and Sheryl Green.
Service at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 1985, at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley, with the Revs. Onie Cook and S. L. McClure officiating.
Burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.
