CITATION:

British Empire Medal : SSgt Angus is an exceptional NCO. For over a year he has been the most senior of the Army and RAF non-commissioned members of the Mission operating more or less constantly in the Soviet zone of Germany.

Often working in arduous and sometimes hazardous conditions and always under circumstances imposing constant strain, his devotion to the success of the Mission as a whole has been total. His cheerful enthusiasm allied to boundless energy and a completely professional approach has inspired the teams he has been part of again and again; there could be few better demonstrations of leading by example.

Furthermore on occasions he has been given responsibilities normally reserved for Captains and Majors on tour in the DDR, and has never failed to justify the trust placed in him. By force of personality and example he has made a contribution to the effectiveness of the Mission which is quite disproportionate to his rank: his contribution to such success as the Mission may have enjoyed in the course of the past two years is very great and it merits special recognition.

Place : Berlin and East Germany
Date of action : 21 April 1977 to 1 December 1978
How Employed : Tour Non-Commissioned Officer

I met Nick Angus in 1968/69. Nick was acting as a DS during a training exercise in the Trucial Oman (UAE). He immediately struck me as a calm and thoughtful man. A great model for a young soldier.
