CITATION:
Silver Star : On June 6, 1944, about two and one half miles east of Carentan, France, he displayed outstanding courage as a volunteer in a group assaulting enemy held positions. Crossing 283 foot bridge in the face of strong enemy machinegun and small arms fire, he and his group forced the enemy to temporarily withdraw. This enabled his own forces to reorganize against enemy counter attack. His conduct was in accordance with the highest standards of the military service.
