CITATION:

Legion Of Merit : The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat "V" to Ensign Charles W. Baldock (NSN: 0-244231), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while attached to the U.S.S. CHARLES CARROLL (APA-28), during the assault on and occupation of French Morocco from 8 November 1942 to 11 November 1942. On the morning of 8 November 1941, Ensign Baldock was navigator of the scout boat from the U.S.S. CHARLES CARROLL. This boat preceded the assault boat waves, in darkness, toward a strange and hostile coast, in the face of unknown dangers in order to guide the assault waves by prescribed signals to the proper beach. Ensign Baldock's experience in Marine surveying and his long service as a quartermaster made his assistance invaluable to the commander of the scout boat in successfully indicating the proper beach for landing. The courage, professional skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Ensign Baldock were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Ensign Baldock is authorized to wear the Combat "V".)
