Military Medal : At Wibaining Ridge, west of Mubo, on 30 Jan 43 during the Japanese drive on Wau. For his outstanding coolness in manning and maintaining his Bren Gun in action in an extremely exposeve position when both his No's 1 and 2 had been wounded.

His courage was largely influential in holding back the enemy force until reinforcements arrived.

STATEMENT BY WITNESSES TO THE ACTION FOR WHICH COMMEND. PTW C.B. BEITZ
At Wibaining Ridge on 30 JAN, 43 Pte. Beitz, one of the party of 12, were attacked by a Jap patrol.

Already one of our parties of approx. 40 had left this position to attack a Jap camp in the Wibaining area.

Pte. Beitz manned and maintained his bren gun in a very forward position holding the enemy break for an hour and allowing the patrol of 40 to return in safety.
