CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Solomon Biblowitz (D-72006), Canadian Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Second Company, Third Regiment, 1st Special Service Force, in action against the enemy near Mt. Ors, France, on 13 September 1944. While on outpost duty, Sergeant Biblowitz volunteered with a section of men to assault a numerically superior enemy force located a short distance from the outpost. Leading the assault he charged forward against devastating enemy fire, shouting orders to his men and firing with deadly effect his sub-machine gun as he advanced. So intense was his own fire and that of his men that the enemy was forced to withdraw. Still unmindful of the retreating enemy's fire, Sergeant Biblowitz led his group in pursuit until lack of ammunition forced him to withdraw and, while thus engaged, was fatally shot by a sniper. Through his aggressive leadership, a strong enemy attack was frustrated, a considerable number of casualties inflicted, and resulted in voluntary surrender of twenty-five of the enemy later in the day.
