Can any one help me ? im trying to find any infomation on my Gt Grand father Richard albert Dunderdale. i have loads of things about Uncle Biffy but nothing on Richard.

Hi Chris,

Currently, I am carrying out research in to a Patrick Dalzel-Job RNVR. There is, as far as I know, no connection to Richard, but there are connections to Biffy via Ian Fleming. I would very much like the opportunity to chat to you about your uncle.

In the meantime, if I come across anything related to Richard I will mail you.

Kind regards,

Bob - Ipswich

Hi Chris,
Did Richard serve with the Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery ? I have found details on Ancestry.co.uk, aplogies if you already have them....with regards to Biffy, he is mentioned a fair bit in the book 'Secret Flotillas'

Regards,

David

Thanks David and Bob.
I know very little about my Gt grandperants apart that she was Russian and that Richard is mentioned in many books as having somthing to do with Vickers. In the book Triplex, secrets from the Cambridge spies a 1943 KGB file on Biffy by Elena Modrzhinskaya who was a top KGB expert on the UK at the time says that Richard was the Former manager of the vickers works in Kronstadt and Biffys mother was Countess Demidov.Neather of witch i have been able to conferm.
Also in Biffys obituarie it says that richard had somthing to do with the Canadian built Subs that went on to be the Russian AG class. They were shiped in kit form and transported across russia by rail and Richard sent Biffy aged only 16 as escort and interpreter. Other books say that Biffys dad was a ship owner.
All i know for shure is that He died in Pietermaritzburg in 1946 in a nursing home I have had a look on Ancestry.co.uk many thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

and many thanks for the reply.

Your family history is nothing short of amazing. When I've visited the TNA for the PDJ material I have often looked for files on Biffy, but alas nothing of note to date. I have been told by various historians that I need to look at his life, but with not much info around it has been difficult.

By chance, do you know if there's any connection to Fleming - was he a friend/aquaintance of the family or perhaps he had read about Biffy's adventures somewhere? Any information you can offer would be much appreciated.

In the meantime, best wishes for a very Happy New Year.

Kind regards,

Bob
