CITATION:

Silver Star : During an attack against a strong enemy position the squad which Pfc. Casselman was a member was pinned down by heavy hostile fire. Pfc. Casselman, with utter disregard for his own safety, moved forward and assisted in setting up a machine gun. Although the target of intense machine gun, rifle and mortar fire, this intrepid soldier remained forward and assisted in the firing of the weapon until he was mortally wounded.

His great courage, daring initiative and zealous devotion to duty set an inspiring example for his unit and exemplify the finest traditions of the military forces of the United States.
