thanks for your reply, there are two books with information on clive mason, the first one is selous scouts top secret war.by Lt Col Ron Reid Daly and Peter Stiff, published by Galago, which gives a lot of info about clives service with them,The second book is called phantoms of the jungle, the story of the Australian S.A.S.R. in vietnam, this book contains a photo of clive about to go on patrol, wearing his deerstalker hat.hope this info is of help to you.

Dave,
I was a member of the Scouts & I was on the op when Clive was killed. Johnathan Pittaway -Author "Rhodesia SAS" and "Long Range Desert Group"- is in the final phases of his book "Selous Scouts", hopefully published by year end. I have submitted an account of the contact in which Clive was killed which has been included in the book.
On a trip to the UK 4 years ago, I met with Clive's daughter and gave her a first hand account of Clive's death.
I can assure you that your assessment of Clive being an exceptional soldier is not misplaced.

Regards

Wings

THANKS WINGS.
I will look out for this new book, thankyou for the info on clive, can you tell me where clive was born.
I looked over my copy of selous scouts again last night .
Found mention of two wilsons, one sgtmaj and one sgt.
thanks again, and i'm sure Jaimie would like to hear from someone who served with his granddad.

REGARDS DAVE.

Hi Dave,
Not sure where Clive was born. Although we worked on same ops a couple of times we were not really close mates.
Not sure which book you have but I left the unit as a Sgt. I would assume the W0 is Pete Wilson, who was seconded to Scouts from Signals corp but also got involved operationally, especially on the "mobilised columns" into Mozambique.
Johnathan Pittaway's book comprises mainly of short accounts written by unit members - topics vary from contact reports, training, psuedo ops, tactics etc. I think it makes good reading as it enables the reader to identify with the perceptions of a cross section of members and containd literally hundreds of photographs. The delay in the book has been the finalisation of the Nominal Role. I have seen the final proof, so shouldn't be nuch longer.
Have you seen the website www.theselousscouts.com

Take care

G'DAY.
THANKS FOR WEB SITE,MY READ IS RON REID DALY AND PETER STIFF, SELOUS SCOUTS TOP SECRET WAR,PUBLISHED 1982,BY GALAGO PUBLISHERS.

regards DAVE.

@Wings Wilson - Hi Rob. Have just read the account of your's, Paul French and Dennis Croukamp's adventure in Gaza during Op Mardon. Would be very keen to chat about that to you if you are amenable, and also the Clive Mason incident. Just FYI I write on African military history and have just produced a fairly lightweight primer on the Reg for 30 Degrees South and Helion Press in UK, and am digging for interesting facts for my own interest and general research. Would that be possible?

Hi Jamie, I realize your message was a few years ago but my grandson is interested in info about Clive Mason. If you could provide some info or an address where he could write to you or a family member, I would appreciate it.
