Charlie Court was my father's ( Pvt. William "Cocky" Cochrane) best pal in No.1 section, A Coy, 73 Column Black Watch. He was wounded in May 1944 when the Watch consisting of around 200 men ambushed a Japanese column of battalion strenght (1000 men). Mr Court was flown out from a jungle airstrip by a short take off U.S aircraft with another casualty 42 column O.C Major Rose. My father and his section pals thought that Mr Court had got a lucky "Blighty" wound and would be back in the U.K in no time. They were shocked to hear that he died in August at a hospital on India. They all reckoned that he died from neglect.
