Douglas Pomford, MM and bar, service no. 3456406, was in the South Lancs Regt., 11 Commando, and 1 SBS. He was a Corporal when he was awarded the MM, and a Sgt when awarded the bar to his MM. There is a detailed description concerning the latter, which was a result of his gallantry in action on the islands of Ios, Amorgos, and Naxos, in the book Commando Gallantry Awards of WW2 by George A. Brown

You could try contacting the Liverpool Golden Gloves Amateur Boxing Club in Toxteth. I am not sure if it is one and the same club but Duggie Pomford was a member of the Metropolitan Club pre war, and was a trainer at the Golden Gloves in the early 50's.
As it happens the British Amateur Boxing Championships are being held in just over a week in Liverpool. They must know of amateur boxing contacts/historians who could help with Duggie Pomford's career:

Good luck and if you get a result post it here for all to see.

Hi - sorry to bother you but I was wondering why you wanted the information on Douglas Pomford and if I could be of any help - he was my Dad.

Hi Lynne,

I noticed your email regarding your father Douglas Pomford.

I am currently researching the wartime activities of the SBS and in particular the Scotsmen who served in this unit.

I have recently received some copy photos from the Imperial War Museum of the SBS and your father is included in them. If you would like copies of the photos please let me know and I will copy them for you.

Best wishes,
Ian

Hello.
You may have such information by now, but just in case you don`t, I can tell you that Duggie Pomford lost a decision ever so narrowly, to Bruce Woodcock who became the British Heavyweight Champion.
Duggie ran The Golden Gloves ABC in Miles Street, Liverpool 8. I was at the club in 1955 and remember how Duggie was a stickler for training hard.
I, as a lightweight used to punch a bag with Duggie leaning on it shouting for me to punch harder and faster! Can you imagine that? He was a great man in every sense of the word. I remember him telling us never to be involved in fights outside, and to always walk away from trouble. Good advice.
I never knew of Duggies wartime exploits until recently, as he never spoke of them; such was his humility. Everyone liked him.
Best of look with your research>
Sincerely,
Nev Harrison.

Hello Ellie.
When looking at SBS articles on Internet, I came across your reply to someone. Having messaged that person with information about your Dad`s boxing exploits, I was advised by organisers of this site, to message someone else, in order to receive my first award! So there`s my reason for messaging you.
I was at your Dad`s Golden Gloves ABC in 1955. Your Dad`s training methods got me really fit and gave me lots of self- confidence.
I`m an old man now and have done lots of things, but will never forget my time at Golden Gloves ABC in Liverpool.
My best wishes to you.
Nev Harrison.
