He lived next door to my uncle and gran in Cross Gates (kelmscott crescent) until he passed away. He once let me try on his army tunic and SAS beret (still have the picture!) when I was a young lad. The above picture was on the side in his kitchen and fascinated me. I bought a book some years later on the SAS and the same picture was in it (from operation bull basket). The snowflakes of today have nothing on people like Bill.

Bill was a family friend..We met Bill and Connie on holiday in Italy and unlike many holiday friendships, they stayed in touch. I was only about 9 at the time. When i wanted to join the RAF, Bill was all for it. He came to open days when I was posted in Yorkshire and was great fun. Bill and Connie came up the Scotland for my wedding and in typical fashion, Bill was first on the dance floor. My mum and dad often visited them in Leeds. I remember speaking to him on the phone and telling him I has been to a presentation/book launch by Andy McNab. i said Bill, you should write a book. His response was Elaine, who would be interested in my stories. If only he knew. Bill and Connie were the loveliest couple and are never forgotten.
