Today, someone asked me about my father. All I know was that he was in the Medical Corp attached to the SAS and was executed by the gestapo and buried in the village of Rom, France. His name was William Watt Allan and he was in France with his Unit for Operation Bulbasket. Any information on this Operation would be gratefully received. Thankyou, Ann
Allan,

John

He was born in 1916 in Newcastle.
Member of the Royal Army medical Corp and later attached to the SAS.
Injured in Italy in approx 1942
Married Rose Reading in London 1943.
Parachuted behind enemy lines France 1944 for Operation Bulbasket. Executed with comrades July 7th 1944. Daughter Ann Rosemary Allan born Jan.'45. Awarded MM Posthumously for Bravery.
I believe he served in Arabia, pre 1942 and Sicily and Italy where he was injured in 1943.

Dear Skip

Many thanks for your post, I am very interested in any information you may have on Operation Bulbasket and my father.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards

Dear Ann,

Your father parachuted in to the Bulbasket team on the night of 16/17th June 1944 with three others and four jeeps. They were transported by 5 Halifax aircraft - one per jeep and one for the four personnel. On leaving the drop zone the party were attacked by German troops of the SS Das Reich Division and in the speedy withdrawal one of the jeeps overturned crushing Trooper O'Neil's hand. Your father later amputated the two middle fingers of his hand with a pair of scissors.

I have further information but could you contact me on skipodonovan@googlemail.com from where I will be able to explain more and send a photo taken recently of his grave.

Very pleased that you have replied,
