Gerry was my cousin, but we were more like brother and sister. I miss him very much. He always wanted as a young boy to become a Para. The last time I saw him was when he was visiting his dad Michael, at Southampton General Hospital, just before he went back to Ireland. It was just before Christmas, we laughed so much and said our cheerios thinking we would see each other soon.
New Years Day my husband took a phone call saying it auntie Sue, Gerrys mum, I automatically thought it was about uncle Mike who was very ill at the time. Tears were already running down my face, he was my favourite Uncle, thinking the worst. My heart was ripped apart when she said that Gerry had been shot and had died.
I will never forget my Hero,my cousin my brave Soldier. Rest in Peace you were a very special young Man.
