CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Timothy Vaughn Harper, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Sergeant Harper distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 16 September 1970, while serving as Squad Leader, Company H (Ranger), 75th Infantry (Airborne), 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), during military operations in the Republic of Vietnam. While in a night ambush position, Sergeant Harper's squad engaged an element of enemy personnel along the trail. Contact was made with the enemy force, and Sergeant Harper applied suppressive fire on the hostile unit. His gallant action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon him, his unit, and the United States Army.
