CITATION:

Military Cross : Before his service with this Cdo, the Rev HOOK had served some months with 40 (RM) Cdo and had been into action with them several times, including one operation on the Island of BRAC, where the Cdo suffered very heavy casualties.

The Rev HOOK has served 10 months with 43 (RM) Cdo and before the final offensive had been in action with them four times, on the Dalmatian Islands of HVAR, BRAC, and SOLTA, and on the mainland of JUGOSLAVIA, as well as various periods of line holding. Throughout this period the Rev HOOK's zeal and efficiency in the presence of the enemy had a fine effect on the spirit of the Cdo.

During the assault on the COMMACCHIO Spit, the Rev HOOK's conduct was outstanding. He showed the greatest devotion to duty in carrying out his difficult task under fire and often with the assaulting Troops.

This was repeated during the forcing of the ARGENTA GAP. His selfless interest in all which affect the well-being of the Cdo has been most marked. He is highly respected by offrs and men who have the utmost confidence in him. He has played a large part in producing the spirit and dash shown by the Cdo in action
