Hello all, I am trying to find out information on the location and particulars of the Parachute Regiment Depot and School circa 1942. My Grandfather - Gunner 1577134 Frederick Langmaid remustered from the Royal Artilery 501 Bty, 72 Searchlight Reg to the Parachute Regiment. He was killed in the UK on 31 Oct 1942,in I believe, a Para training exercise. His death was registered in Barton, Lancs and he is buried in his home town of Harwarden, Flintshire, Wales.

I would be grateful for any info on the rigours that my Grandfather would have undertaken at the Parachute Regiment Dept and School and where it would have been located. Plus any other info that anyone may deem interesting. I am also in the process of obtaining his service records from the Army. Many thanks in anticipation.

You will find a lot of Information from the Public record Office (now The national Archive)As far as I can recall the reference is Air 27/1512 but I will have to confirm that.
The actual parachute training was done at Ringway, now Manchester Airport, and the prior training at Hardwick Hall I believe.

I am interested in Airborne Forces (Parachute, Glider Pilot, SAS Regiments and supporting arms) from inception and have quite a bit of informaiton, which is mainly Arnhem related.

Are you near to Kew? which is where PRO/TNA are located?

Thanks for the response AndyBaldEagle. Unfortunately, I live up North, therefore not near to Kew. I have done several searches using google on 'Air 27/1512 plus National Archive' in various guises, but no luck. Are you able to post the link/links or suggest the any links to search.
Many thanks
