CITATION:

Croix de Guerre With Bronze Star : On the 6th June 1944, at LIUN-SUR MER. This Marine was Troop H.Q. bren gunner. When Troop H.Q. and one section was almost completely surrounded, and the signaller and wireless set had been knocked out, Mne.KELLY volunteered to take a message back to Commando H.Q. This he did successfully under heavy fire, and returned to his Troop. Withdrawal was then ordered and Mne.KELLY covered each successive stage with his Bren and was always the last man to leave a position. At each stage he inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy and relieved pressure which at times becoming most dangerous. These actions are typical of the man who throughout his service in the Commando has displayed the greatest courage in action.
