CITATION:

Mention In Despatches : SSgt LAFRENAIS commanded a 4 man patrol tasked to provide vital information on enemy dispositions in the STANLEY area, as a prelude to the reoccupation of the FALKLAND ISLANDS.

Inserted by helicopter onto, EAST FALKLAND from HMS HERMES at a range of 120 miles, he positioned his patrol in the close proximity of enemy positions to the west of STANLEY.

Throughout the period, the accuracy of his reporting was exemplary. The vulnerability of his position must have been obvious when he observed a large group of enemy helicopters flying into a location immediately to the rear of his position. Cut off from his escape route he was never in any doubt that he could not be extracted in the event of compromise through enemy action. His cool head and skillful handling of his patrol was both courageous and in the highest traditions of his Regiment. The intelligence he sent from the field and which he produced at his debrief, helped to shape the nature of future operations concerned with the retaking of the area around STANLEY. He thoroughly deserves recognition for his actions.
