CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant Frank F. Lahr (MCSN: 0-24287), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Member of Underwater Demolition Team Three, in action against enemy Japanese forces during a bombardment and assault in the Marinas Islands, from 17 to 21 July 1944. Cool and courageous in the face of persistent enemy rifle, machine-gun and mortar fire, Second Lieutenant Lahr supervised important phases of beach reconnaissance and placement of high explosive charges which aided in the destruction of enemy underwater obstacles and beach defenses. By his expert leadership and gallant conduct throughout, he contributed materially to the ultimate success of the subsequent landing. His zealous devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
