Bronze Star : Specialist Four Lewis distinguished himself by outstanding meritorious achievement in connection with ground operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam during the period 12 December 1965 to 16 March 1966 while serving as a radio-telephone operator in the communications platoon and machine gunner in the reconnaissance platoon. Specialist Four Lewis performed his duties with vigor, maintaining at all times a cheerful and positive attitude. No task was too difficult for him, nor would he perform other than in the very best manner on any assigned mission. 16 March 1966, Specialist Four Lewis made the ultimate sacrifice when he gave his life for his country. The energetic application of his extensive knowledge has materially contributed to the efforts of the United States mission to the Republic of Vietnam to assist that country in ridding itself of the communist threat to its freedom. Specialist Four Lewis' initiative, zeal, sound judgement and devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
