Mention in Despatches (unit ?)
Army passenger in Dakota IV KN584 from 357 Squadron - hit mountains near the village of Mewaing killing all 4 of the crew, 6 other RAF personnel and 6 British Army passengers. Buried within the Monastery at Mewaing and graves marked with identities and a cross. Due to location the CWGC decided that they could no longer maintain the graves and listed them all as missing on the Rangoon Memorial. However, in 2014 a project was organised in order to reverse this. On November 16th 2016 the CWGC agreed to place a special memorial to the crew and passengers and also to erect individual grave markers for each of the 16 lost. This special ceremony was attended by relatives of some of the crew/passengers.
