Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any information on a Michael Gurmin? Maybe Michael Howard Gurmin?

I understand he may have been an officer in 1 SAS and maybe in SOE? Also why stationed in Syria (Cheka?)

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Sam

Thanks John. Very interesting. Where did you get that from?

Does anyone know where the Middle East Commando Depot was? Could it be Nathanya?

Hi Sam,
Just looked at a book i have, titled 'The Middle East Commandos by Charles Messenger 1988, page 102 mentions their Depot was at Geneifa, which is Egypt, pages 16/17 have more detail and states that MEC began to form during the first week of August 1940 at Geneifa.

kind regards,
Dave

Middle East Commando Depot was at Geneifa.Nathanya was in Palestine (now Israel). This is possibly where he parted from the SAS.
He is mentioned in "Special Forces Commander" (Michael Scott) and "SAS:The History of the Special Raiding Squadron" (Stewart McClean).

Thanks chaps.

I'm just trying to fill some gaps. I have a great photo record of Fred's but from around May '41 up to his death in Jan '43 it goes a little hazy.

It looks like he was in a hospital from around June 41 to at least August '41. I have a collection of photos of a bunch of men and nurses labelled "6th General June 41 M.E.F.". (El Tehag?)

Also photos with "Nearly OK again. Nathanya Depot 41". And some labelled "Convalescing. Nathanya Beach August '41".

There's also some photos of Libya and Tobruk. I also understand he was in Syria at some point.

Just trying to piece together what I can

Sam
