I have a picture of my dad, Bill McNichol, taken with what looks like two officers and 5 men in front of a black board that says PHILLIPS' PHANTOMS NCDU 134. I would appreciate any information someone may have as to who the other men were in the photo and when it may have been taken.

Thanks,

Tom McNichol

I believe that the picture was taken sometime circa 1944. WWII. Dad went on to be a member of UDT team 6 (first unit 6). He trained at Ft. Pierce, Fla. I wish I knew more.

if you send the photo to john the administrator he will put it up for the others and they might be able to help. I was thinking it might be part of the "phantom " units but they weer not navy more ground recon to my knowledge. best place to have a look would be original combat divers books world war two era or stuff on the origins of the seal teams which I beleive started as UDTs

Hey there,

I saw your entry regarding your father's unit, NCDU 134. I would really like to speak with you if possible. I have a helmet, purchased at an estate sale in MA., that is from a member of NCDU 134. I saw the photo you posted, and it would be great to know which one in the photo belongs to my helmet. His first name was ELI. The rest of his name is a bit blurred on the chinstrap.

Would you mind contacting me via e-mail or phone? Would really appreciate. Any details regarding NCDU 134 and how they were used in the Mediteranean would be fantastic.

My phone number is: (918) 605-9714
My e-mail is: squad.leader@cox.net

I see this is an old post. The UDT SEAL Museum in For Pierce FLorida has all the photos of the early teams who trained at the Navy Amphibious Training Base Fort Pierce Florida. I also have a team photo of my grandfather's (CCM Francis X. Darcy, Sr.). Their name was Stormy Tetrlys.

Early this week Ruth McSween the curator of the UDT SEAL Museaum wrote to me saying,
I do have a bit of good news. Within the next few months we plan to launch our photo collections on line so that the public can view. Please keep an eye on our website for more info.

There is many items stored at the museum that are not displayed, just ask Ruth if they can be viewed.

NCDU 134 took part initially in the Utah Beach invasion. All of the Utah NCDU went on to the Mediteranean. All of the Omaha NCDU non-com went to the Pacific and formed UDT 25.
