Phil,

This should help you out. The attached caption was drawn up by various 3 Sqn, 2nd SAS, vets. There may be the odd error but of those I know by sight it is correct. The photo was taken at Wivenhoe in October 1945 at disbandment of the Regiment. Some members of the Squadron had already been posted on or were away on courses so it does not show the full complement. The 75mm Pack Howitzer, nicknamed 'Molto Stanco', had been parachuted into Operation Tombola some months previously. See Roy Farran's book for details.

Other squadrons, and some specific troops such as that used on Op Galia, also had their photos taken.

All the best,

Skip

Phil,

John emailed to tell me that my attached caption for the photo had not come through so I have now sent it to him personally. If you would like it then feel free to email me on skipodonovan@gmail.com.

All the best,

Dear ROH community.

I just received a call from my mother informing me of the passing of my great uncle, David Eyton-Jones, last Tuesday.

Saddened, I came on-line and after searching for his name I was comforted to know that he was in contact with so many people through this forum.

Thank you for keeping his memory alive and his stories told.

Best regards,

Peter

Hello Peter, I was sad to learn of David passing away, apparently he was planning a trip to Italy to the operation Tombola area. My father Frank Mulvey was on the Tombola mission with David. Matteo Incerti (author of the Italian Tombola book) fortunately did this interview with David just a few weeks ago in case you haven't seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-mW3-9peIA
It's a great interview. Deepest sympathies to all of David Eyton Jones' family and huge respect for David. As far as we know he was the last known surviving 2SAS from Tombola (apart from Kirkpatrick the Tombola Piper who is still with us).

Hi there,

I would like to ask where i would be able to see this picture, as i have a feeling that the J murphy may be my grandad.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

James
