CITATION:

Bronze Star : For heroic achievement in connection with military operation against the enemy, on Corregidor, Philippine Islands, Feb 24, 1945. Sgt. Rabe was leading his squad on a patrol west of ------------- when it was ambushed and pinned down by heavy enemy fire. Sgt. Rabe was wounded by grenade fragments early in the action. Disregarding his wounds he maintained complete control of the squad and withdrew his men at the proper time to the beach for evacuation by boat. While aboard the landing craft Sgt. Rabe refused medical aid, insisting that the limited medical supplies be used in treatment of other wounded men. Sgt Rabe's courageous and skillful leadership enabled him to extricate his squad from a very difficult position and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the service.
