Chief Master Sergeant Charles F. Salome, U.S.A.F. Retired, age 52, of Woodstock, died Saturday, September 5, 1998 at his home. He was born in Dayton, OH. on June 5, 1946. Charles was the eldest son Colonel Richard A. Salome, Sr. U.S.A.F. (Ret) (deceased 7/6/97) and Helen M. Salome of Cape Coral, FL. He attended military dependent schools in Europe and the U.S., graduating High School from Augusta Military Academy in 1964. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1965 and was assigned to the prestigious Maroon Berets at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. Serving his country for three tours in Vietnam, he was awarded more than 20 Medals of Honor during his distinguished service career. Among the military decorations are the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Medal (21 Oak Leaf Clusters), and Air Force Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Force Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal with (O Device), Navy Outstanding Unit Award, and the Air Force Achievement Medal. He married his wife, Janis in 1979. His career in the Air Force included assignments at: Da Nang Airfield RVN Vietnam, Bien Hoa Air Base RVN Vietnam, Kindley AFB, Bermuda; McCoy AFB, Florida; Nakhon Phanom RT AFB, Thailand; Plattsburg, AFB, Plattsburg, NY.; Hicham AFB, Hawaii, Kirkland, AFB, NM; Nellis AFB, Nevada. While still enlisted, he earned himself a Bachelor Degree in Aviation Administration, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Emory Riddle Aeronautics Institute. Completing his education, he received a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He retired from the U.S.A.F. in 1992 after 28 years of service. Having secured a job with Lockhead Enterprises, he and his family moved to Woodstock, GA. in 1992. Charles was extensively involved in his church and community activities. Under his spirited initiative, he was dedicated to numerous sports, religion and family projects. He as an umpire and coach for the SCRA, the local baseball and basketball teams. He served as an advisor on the Goya, a church sponsored youth group.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Janis of Woodstock, GA.; one son, Joseph Salome of Woodstock, GA.; his mother, Helen Salome of Cape Coral, FL.; and his siblings: Patricia Salome of Cape Coral, FL., Beverlee Hayes of Peoria, IL. and Richard Salome, Jr. of NYC, NY.
