CITATION:

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Jared K. Tuxill, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as a Reconnaissance Team Leader while assigned to a Joint Task Force in Support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM from 2 August to 15 August 2009. Senior Chief Tuxill provided exceptional combat leadership to a beleaguered conventional element in a remote Afghan village. On 5 August 2009, he expertly led an offensive patrol, encountering three armed enemy fighters who opened fire with small arms and rocket-propelled grenades. He immediately and aggressively exposed himself to engage the threats and began returning fire as a rocket-propelled grenade detonated nearby, wounding him and several other teammates. While the medic began immediate treatment of the other wounded members, Senior Chief Tuxill continued to return fire and expertly coordinated multiple danger close strafing runs, suppressing the enemy threat. Despite being wounded himself, he selflessly assisted in transferring the wounded members to safety, undoubtedly saving their lives. Senior Chief Tuxill's unyielding leadership, courageous actions, and total dedication to duty reflected great credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
